Insured has a late model car from a buy here pay here car lot. The mini van breaks down all the time. That does not stop them from driving from NY to Atlanta with a car load of people. The van dies on the highway somewhere in the Carolinas. Insured requested that we tow the van back to NY and put the family up in a hotel room for the night then pay for plane tickets home. No, I repeat no insurance is going to do this. When you go out of town have your mechanic check your vehicle first, and have an emergency credit card or some emergency cash. We towed the car to a garage, but hotel rooms and airfare are unreasonable.
Insured gets a flat tire and calls roadside assistance. Guess what, they have no spare tire. Why not? We tow them to a tire dealer only they get upset because the insurance will not buy them a spare tire. What would make a driver think that it is our job to buy parts for your car?
Insured calls the agency early in the morning stating, "my car won't start". I am sorry to hear this. They then asked when we were dropping off a rental car. No insurance is going to bring a rental car because one morning your car won't start. We will do things like bring gas or try to jump start it if you have roadside assistance. But imagine how high rates would be if every time a car goes in the garage we had to cover a rental car. If that was the case every time some one plans a trip they would disconnect a cable or hose in their car, say it won't start and get a free rental car to go on their trip.
We are here to help you and make you financially whole again when you have a covered loss. We will do our part if you do yours. We would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
